The 3 things you should be buying in the Sales.
Hint: They're not for summer. No swimwear to be seen here.
It’s time to think forward. Yes, it’s ’Summer’ (ha!) but the best sale buys to be had are usually out of season styles and require some thinking ahead. Not usually my strong point it has to be said, but when it comes to accessing those out-of- budget items I’ve been coveting, I can be surprisingly focused and forward-thinking. Go figure…
The &Daughter jumper I bought on sale three years ago, still going strong.
Yes, I know you’re probably going on holiday soon, and you’re probably thinking about swimwear and breezy dresses. Me too. But trust me, if you follow my tried and tested Sale shopping advice your December-self will be so happy your July-self used the power of foresight to remember that it will, in fact, be cold again in the not too distant future. With that in mind, here are the three things I always look for in the Summer sales…
1. High Quality Knitwear
&Daughter is one of the best knitwear brands around and their pieces are truly made to last. Plus, the discounts in their January Sale are never as high as in in the July sale. Trust me, I’ve tracked this in a slightly obsessive way, if I’m honest. And when it comes to buying knitwear in the sale, I prefer to go to the experts rather than a brand that does a bit of everything. Just a note on the imagery too, while I adore &Daughter, I wouldn’t say their e-commerce imagery is hugely inspiring. But please don’t let that put you off- trust me when I say that their knitwear is so good, such good quality, and that reliable piece you will reach for time and time again.
This lambswool roll neck will be a keeper for years to come. And it is less than half price. I repeat. Less than half price! Was £395, Now £158
How great is this striped crewneck? I love how the stripe runs right across the neckline- slightly more interesting than your average Breton. I’d size up for a more relaxed fit. Was £325, Now £130
This Merino ribbed cardigan is the perfect partner for those wide leg jeans you’ve found yourself gravitating towards this season. Was £285, Now £114
2. Boots
Now is the time to bag the best discounts on designer boots. Those brands you wouldn’t normally dream of shopping might just be within reach when you’re looking at a 40/50% discount.
These lace-up combat style boots are a classic if you ask me. Comfortable, effortless, and just as good with jeans as they are skirts and dresses. Isabel Marant shoes are always seriously comfortable and made to last in my experience. Were £650, Now £390
I love the loafer-esque styling and contrast stitching on these Chloe boots. One part preppy + one part stompy = the perfect flat boot. Were £850, Now £510
The perfect pointed ankle boot in my opinion, courtesy of Toteme. The dark brown mock-croc is just as versatile as black but a bit more interesting, while the low heel keeps them super-wearable. Were £600, Now £360
3. Coats and Jackets
I often buy outerwear in the summer sale for all the reasons mentioned above. There’s no feeling quite like pulling out your new dream coat in November knowing you bought it at 70% off during a heatwave when most people were searching for shorts and swimwear.
If you love bomber jackets (and OH how I love bomber jackets) then this Studio Nicholson number will most likely float your boat. Such a great versatile non-colour colour (I think you’ll know what I mean?) that you can wear throughout the year. Was £625, Now £375
This chocolate brown wool coat by Toteme has a contemporary feel thanks to dropped shoulders and an oversized silhouette. Was £1030, Now £618
Toteme is a personal favourite and if it’s one of yours too then it’s a great brand to buy on sale. The reason being, they have such a well-defined aesthetic that it exists almost outside of seasonal trends. In basic terms- if you’re a Toteme girl, you’ll love anything you buy on sales from them for years to come. No fads to be found here.
Leather jackets have been completely off my radar for the last 5 years or so, but lately I’ve noticed that I’m starting to, well, notice them again. I love the collarless style of this LouLou Studio style, and think it would work well with all the wide leg jeans and trousers I’m currently living in. It would be great layered under a coat when the weather gets colder too. Was £560, Now £336
